Honda’s newly unveiled V3 engine, featuring an electric compressor, has caused a stir in the motorcycle community following its introduction at the EICMA 2024 show. The V3 configuration is a 75-degree, water-cooled, three-cylinder engine that reimagines performance by using a world-first feature in motorcycle engines: an electric compressor that operates independently of engine speed. This allows Honda to harness substantial torque even at low RPMs, tackling the challenge of turbo lag that can hinder traditional engines.
Unlike standard turbochargers or superchargers, Honda’s electric compressor is powered by the bike’s battery and not directly by engine power. This unique approach brings several advantages.
